The breeze may lead to new power outages. MLK Day on Monday sees lingering snow showers along with a stiff breeze as temperatures sit at or below freezing. Either way, hazardous travel is likely especially after dark Sunday, and power outages may result from ice and snow accumulating on trees and power lines, especially since this snow will be of the wet, heavy variety. Bands of heavier snow can set up anywhere across the region, leading to quick accumulations and very dangerous travel. ![]() ![]() However, as the atmosphere cools this evening and tonight, any wintry mix of precipitation changes over to all snow. Even a bit of rain is possible as temperatures could rise to 33 or 34 degrees, limiting impacts initially. This precipitation may start as snow only briefly before switching to a wintry mix of freezing rain and/or sleet late morning into the afternoon. Wintry precipitation is spreading from south to north across the region this morning. ![]() After the winter storm departs, a brief thaw is expected for the middle of the week before another return to the freezer. Travel is expected to be hazardous, and power outages may result. By this evening, snow becomes the dominant form of precipitation, and snow showers continue into Monday. A variety of precipitation types are likely at the onset of this storm, including snow, sleet, and freezing rain. Precipitation begins spreading from south to north across the area this morning, with this afternoon seeing widespread wintry weather.
